HOW-TO: Custom usplash in Ubuntu Jaunty
Well after doing some major research the last few days, and successfully changing my Ubuntu 9 (Jaunty) usplash, I thought I would be a kind soul and provide you all with this little tutorial. First letme explain that this may not work for you, however it is simply a modification of the current usplash. This will aim to show you how to get started on creating your own usplash customizations.
Usplash works by reading a compiled library much like a .dll in Windows. These are denoted by the extension .so (shared object). Usplash has a default theme manager you can interact with called usplash-artwork.so, you will see how to use this later on in the how-to. It is simple, and no-nonsense.
Here are a couple of resources you may find useful in your learning experience.

This how-to is going to walk you through building your own custom usplash theme. It does not use startup manager or any kind of 3rd party usplash manager crap. I am going to assume you know what your doing at command line a little bit. Read the rest of this entry »
Pixel Art is awesome
Yea, exactly what the title reads is exactly how it’s meant to be interpreted. I recently found a new appreciation for pixel based art and if you take a look at Goon City, yea whacky as hell, but fucking awesome along with it. Pixel art is a lot harder than a lot of people think so I decided to take a go at it with a building, its not complete, but here is what I have so far:
Some great places to view pixel art, some amazing creations and tutorials etc… can be found by following these links, but Goon City is a must see…

Embedded Theme for Windows XP and 2003 – Official Theme
I found this recently and checked it out, it’s really nice, great color, works like a charm. The theme is an official MS theme I suppose, signed by them. Heres a screeny.
Go ahead and download the zip archive official_embedded_theme_for_windows_xp_and_2003 and simply run the file inside, then change your theme to the new one, voila!! Excellent new theme for Windows XP
Make easy money by freelancing!
Weather your a graphics designer, a writer, a systems administrator or just your simple run of the mill computer guy that people turn to for help, you should consider becoming a freelancer to make some extra cash. Why? Well who doesn’t want to make more money? Please everyone in the crowd who does not want to make money raise your hand. All those in favor of making money please say ‘Aye’.
Thank You.
Let me tell you a bit about Scriptlance. As you can see Flyninja supports Scriptlance. I get work from there all the time and it is so easy to make money its ridiculous. The site posts hundreds of different types of computer related jobs that people and companies are seeking to have done that anyone in their right mind would be crazy to not take the opportunity to at least try it out. Some of these jobs are so easy you can do quite a few of them in a days time, heck within an 8 hour period you can make more than your average person working in a factory, likely in less than 8 hours.
Some of the jobs posted there can be complex, but hey whats wrong with making a quick buck for installing some guys CMS for him, or installing and configuring WordPress with a theme? How about making a logo for someone, or making a logo for 5 other people at 20-30 bucks a pop, you can accomplish that within 2 hours. Thats pretty good if you ask me, and thats why I freelance there. Goto a lot of other freelancing sites and they may just have jobs that are from Scriptlance.
There is really no way for me to completely convince you guys, it’s just something you need to go and check out for yourselves, you get there from here by clicking this link, or use one of the banners on any part of this site.
Oh btw don’t forget to stop in and check out all our great affiliates and partners of Flyninja!
