Mayan Apocalypse Debunked, Stop Talking About It
I’ve heard a lot of people talk about how smart the Mayans were and how their calendar ends December 21 2012 and we’re all gonna die… I just read an awesome article completely debunking it.
Mayan Apocalypse, 2012 (Great Moments in Science, ABC Science)
This article basically says that the Mayan calendar is written out in a sequence of numbers that reminds me of an IP address:
0.0.0.0.1
It is written in a base twenty system with five placeholders, meaning each of the five sections range from 0-19. The supposed apocalyptic date will read 13.0.0.0.0, not what logic would dictate the ‘end’ should be according to their numbering system (19.19.19.19.19).
Websites like 2012endofdays.org say things like “They also had an incredible understanding of time and space. Various calendars were in use to track time in linear progressions within cycles.”
Jump over to wikipedia and you’ll read things like “The end of the Calendar Round was a period of unrest and bad luck among the Maya, as they waited in expectation to see if the gods would grant them another cycle of 52 years.”
and
“The Maya practiced human sacrifice. In some Maya rituals people were killed by having their arms and legs held while a priest cut the person’s chest open and tore out his heart as an offering. This is depicted on ancient objects such as pictorial texts, known as codices (singular: codex). It is believed that children were often offered as sacrificial victims because they were believed to be pure.”
Congratulations to everyone for telling me about and believing a half-assed end of days prophecy based around an ancient civilization that not only largely collapsed over a thousand years ago, but that killed children and worshiped an entity that can literally be translated as “Corn God”. Don’t believe me?

Oh hai, I got an idea – lets give big buiness control over the internet.
Well fuck, today…no, not today but recently, I have noticed a huge transparency in the way the internet is being run. What? ….No one runs the internet? Fuck that, someone sure does. As technology progresses, the ability to monitor EVERYTHING is more and more feasible every single day and for all we know..okay some of us do..we could already have everyday operations monitored without us knowing. Everything is set up right now, in a way, so that a person…people..organization..business…fuck, whatever you want to call ‘it’, could infact do exactly that – monitor the shit out of us. Today, it was announced that google must hand over their entire database of user generated information (think videos viewed, search terms ..etc) and hand it to A BIG FUCKING BUISNESS. Don’t get me wrong, I think google is half evil itself the way it`s set up – they can also abuse their power and they are attaining more and more power every day where it`s almost to the point it’s scary…but this? The court just handed the information over, the very court which is supposed to protect our rights – now they can see how many times I searched for videos of Janet Jacksons tit being exposed at the super bowl like 5 years ago. (that was a joke, and it was really disgusting..but I did unfortunately see it..and probably on youtube..maybe I can check the logs and see…because it is available.)
Anyway, point being is FUCK BIG BUSINESS and QUIT FUCKING MONITORING ME.
Now it’s time to think of more methods to circumvent aforementioned monitoring. I will keep you posted on any findings.
Oh PS..what really fucking shocked me is the fact that on the BBC the most viewed article in North America was about a fucking dude who had a baby – stupid fucked up people, keep the genitals you where born with – you will not get attention from me. Point being, is this HUGE peice of news, which people seem to disregard is fucking…..HUGE…and it`s being ignored for this other piece of shit human being who will inevitable produce a fucked up kid. I hope the kids first words are “fuck transvestites, internet freedom is more important”.
Have a good day, I am not.
If you are going to play cowboy; expect the sheriff.
The interwebs today, is very similar to the wild west of the past. There is much unchartered ‘area’ associated with the internet today. Thus, we have a little game of cowboy and sheriff going on. The ‘good’ versus the ‘bad’ – heck, I might as well toss in the ‘ugly’ because who are we kidding – those of you reading this is are probably pretty ugly. You nerd.
Back on track, this post is a bit more advice opposed to informational or intellectual content. Heck, who am I kidding? I am far from intellectual. ![]()
The parellel I was trying to draw is between a hacker and the cowboy we once knew, you know, the Clint Eastwood kind of Cowboy. One who plays by the rules, but only those defined by him; because not only does he not agree with the rules which surround him, he may even oppose them. Does this make an individual wrong or bad? Far from it – if anything, it makes the misunderstood. However, one must realise; one who is often misunderstood, often has his intentions mistaken for that of which they arn’t – something which may be, by definition, wrong. Again, we won’t debate the right and wrong scenearios here; We will just base this on the general social moray of the average hacker.
As an individual who is trying to enter the professional world, to make a career out of my knowledge and actually do work which I enjoy – I have personally never done anything outside that of ‘formal law’ – does this make me a pussy? Naw, I believe in a way, it just makes me smart. I can say that I have been tempted many times, but often negated my original ideas for that of which is more ‘ethical’. I would much rather work with computers opposed to flipping burgers because the sheriff caught me.
So what I am trying to say, is before you go and ‘play’. Please realise the risks associated with this aforementioned play date, I believe that this should be the first thing an individual learns before he wants to take a crack at hacking. Remember, hacking is NOT associated with illicit activities, rather that of innovation, ideas and progress.
Re: On being a Whitehat Flyninja – Member Big-E speaks out
I agree, in part, with Grym on some stances he takes with regards to the ‘white hat’ hacker ethic. However, one can draw a parallel between the saying “All a good man must do for evil to previal, is nothing” (or one of the various other forms, of the same meaning) and the aforementioned, hacker ethic.
What I am getting at is, if you play by the straight – the “White Hat” creed, evil will indeed prevail. I think it is not only right, but also necessary that these same ‘white hats’ do NOT always play by the law. You are indeed right, if the white hat hacker does not stand for himself, no one will..that is exactly my point. You cannot play white hat, bake the cake and eat it too – you must change colors and protect the domain that is yours, the internet. Do not sell out for money, do not give up because the man says you ‘cannot do that’ – learn and prosper, do what it takes. The internet is ours, we must keep it.
Do what is necessary, if you must break a law to bring justice to someone – do it. Law is only a constraint of freedom and one must only give up the freedom that is necessary for their own protection. Must I give up my privacy for my own protection? No!
The root of my rant is that one must not be passive to what is around them, if one is, one has already lost.
Be free, break the law that constrains your freedom for your own ‘protection’ (ahem!) and then prosper!
